On April 9, 2024, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), headed by Chairperson Lisa Guerrero Nakpil, along with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., will lead the 82nd Araw ng Kagitingan. The event will take place at 8:00 AM with the theme "Pagpaparangal sa Kagitingan ng mga Beterano: Saligan para sa Nagkakaisang Pilipino."

The commemoration will begin with arrival honors conducted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), followed by the national anthems of the Republic of the Philippines, United States of America, and Japan.

The Dambana ng Kagitingan, also known as the Shrine of Valor, will serve as the venue for the event. It is a sacred place where tributes are paid to Filipino and American veterans of World War II, symbolizing their immense sacrifices. During the Araw ng Kagitingan, President Marcos Jr. will address the veterans and their families, reaffirming the government's commitment to their care.
The wreath-laying ceremony will be led by President Marcos Jr., joined by Deputy Chief of Mission Robert Y. Ewing from the Embassy of the United States of America and Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya. Rev. Fr. Josue Enero, Vice General of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Balanga and Parish Priest of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Balanga, will lead the invocation. The tolling of the bells will be performed by veteran Felicisima Pajarin dela Cruz, assisted by Yeshua Brylen Flores of Luakan National Highschool, Dinalupihan.

The program will also include welcome remarks from Bataan Governor Jose Enrique S. Garcia III and an overview by NHCP Chairperson Nakpil. Messages from Ambassador Endo Kazuya and Mr. Ewing will be delivered, and Department of National Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro will introduce the guest of honor. The President will conclude the program with a speech, followed by departure honors facilitated by the AFP.

The Araw ng Kagitingan is observed to commemorate the Fall of Bataan, when Filipino and American forces surrendered to the Japanese after months of resistance with limited weapons, ammunition, and supplies.

The NHCP, as the national government agency, is responsible for promoting Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications. It also plays a vital role in preserving historical heritage by conserving and marking historic sites and structures.

As the nation commemorates the 82nd Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the ceremonial turnover of housing units to 216 informal settler families (ISFs) at Barangay Tenejero in Balanga City, Bataan on April 9, 2024.
An initiative of the National Housing Authority (NHA) led by General Manager Joeben Tai, the NHA-Balanga City Low-Rise Housing Project features six (6) buildings designed in a condominium style that will benefit relocated ISFs from along the Talisay River, an area in Balanga City identified as hazard-prone.  Each unit, measuring 27 square meters, is equipped with two (2) bedrooms, a kitchen, toilet, bath, and fully operational water and power supply.
Aiming to build better and more comprehensive housing solutions, the Project also includes basic facilities such as a four (4)-storey school building with 20 classrooms, a multi-purpose building and a covered basketball court.
Furthermore, to ensure that beneficiaries have access to basic commodities, educational facilities and other community necessities, a Community Center Building has also been constructed within the housing project.  It houses a health center, daycare center, barangay learning hub, offices of the Homeowners’ Association (HOA) and a local government unit (LGU) housing satellite office.
This housing project is a testament of the NHA’s commitment to the Bagong Pilipinas brand of governance and leadership by building 1.3 million houses to address the country’s six (6) million housing backlog.
